It’s easy to take your windows for granted. They’re always there. They let light in and when you open them (if they open properly) they let fresh air in. But your house and your windows may be sending your subtle messages that it’s time for a change. What would your windows tell you if they could talk? Here are 4 telltale signs that it may be time for new windows in your Sterling Heights home.

  1. “I’m Costing You Money!” If you’ve had the same windows in your home for 10 years or more, you may not be getting the kind of insulation from them that you should. According to poorly fitted windows can cost you as much as 10 to 20 percent more on utilities. Heat can escape in the winter and cooled air can leak out in the summer. And in Michigan we know all about cold winters and hot summers.
  2. “I’m Not Working Like I Used To!” Do you have any windows in your home that you deliberately don’t use because they stick? Or maybe you have windows that are fogged over (so you keep the blinds down or the curtains closed so nobody can see them). Or you might have a bedroom window that you have to prop open at night to let cool air in during the summer months. Windows that don’t work properly aren’t making your home more comfortable or enjoyable to be in.
  3. “I Don’t Really Belong in This House!” You may have purchased an older home because you like the charm and character it exudes. But what if the previous owner replaced the original windows with a style of window that simply doesn’t go with the architectural style of the house? Your windows could be crying out for a change.
  4. “I’m Feeling Frumpy!” Your windows probably won’t tell you this, but your house could be. Older homes (even ones from as recent as 20 to 30 years ago) tended to use smaller windows as the standard. Some of that, no doubt, was due to the poor insulating properties of older windows. Newer homes tend to let in a lot more natural light and also use windows (and glass doors) to create an open, airy space in the home.

Your windows know what they’re talking about. Each of those are signs that you might need to take a hard look at the existing windows in your Sterling Heights home. Not only will you save money on utilities, but you’ll be surprised at how much more comfortable your home will be.

And don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone that you’ve been talking to your windows!
